NAIROBI
Nairobi’s cosmopolitan charm includes a vibrant cultural life, great places to eat and an exciting night life! If you are just passing through this melting pot of people, there are some great attractions that are not to be missed, including the intriguing National Museum, a National Park within the city (yes! You heard right – a wildlife park that measures 170 square kms! And has lion, leopard and rhino), an irresistible elephant orphanage, Karen Blixen’s former home, the most heartwarming elephant orphanage, and so much more. Welcome to one of Africa’s most dynamic cities, a place that you’ll almost certainly pass through and one that you will love!

MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
Probably the most famous of the reserves, the Masai Mara, in Kenya’s southwestern corner, boasts an astonishing amount of game. Unfenced, the Mara is bounded in the east by the Ngama Hills and in the west by the Oloololo or Siria Escarpment. Gazelle, wildebeest and zebra graze in large numbers and where prey is found so are predators. Not only is this a great place in which to find game, but also the wide greeny-gold savannahs spotted with thorn trees make it ideal for photography. The Mara, as it is known in Kenya, is ravishingly beautiful and also offers long, undisturbed views and utterly dramatic panoramas. The weather really means something here. The sun may beat down unforgiving, huge clouds in fabulous shapes may sweep across the widest of skies; the wind ripples the grasses as though a giant hand strokes them. The landscape is stunning.
The famously black-manned Mara lions are possibly the stars of the Mara show, but cheetah, elephant, kongoni, topi, Thompson’s gazelle, waterbuck, hyena, and primates are all here too. As with the rest of Kenya, the birding is good.
Famously, the Mara is the northerly end of the Great Migration, that great primeval surge of wildebeest, zebra and antelope that sweeps in from Tanzania’s Serengeti to Kenya’s Masai Mara as the Tanzanian grass starts to fail. The large predators that pick off the weak, the stragglers and the young track them.  The great herds, in the Masai Mara from July through October, mass along the Mara River, pushing, shoving and fantastically noisy, just waiting for the first animal to cross so that they can all follow, lemming-like, on the final leg of the journey. However, crocodiles lie in wait, sluggishly cruising the waters, fully prepared for their best meal of the year. Many fail in the life-and-death struggle - drowned, eaten by the crocodiles or, made careless or weak by their stressful swim, brought down by lions. The Masai Mara is not to be missed.

LOLDIA RANCH
Loldia Ranch was originally established by a family who trekked by ox wagon from South Africa a century ago and their descendants still own the land today.  Here you can experience the life of Kenya’s early settlers.
The current Loldia House was built in the Second World War and nestles under ancient acacia and wild fig trees in a uniquely peaceful setting. Lush lawns run down to the western shores of Lake Naivasha, the Great Rift Valley’s highest and purest lake. Plants and flowers fill the garden. Wild animals roam free here with small antelope wandering through the gardens, occasional buffalo, and hippo grazing at night. The original character of the house has been kept with comfy chairs around a huge fireplace and a deep and shady veranda to relax on.

All meals and overnight stay at the Governors Camp (B/L/D) http://www.governorscamp.com/property-descriptions/governors-camps-masai-mara/governors-camp Masai Mara offers an absolutely unique variety of animals. The reason is that this hilly region is both humid and fertile, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers, full of crocodiles and hippos. The abundance of water and excellent availability of food are the reasons why the Masai Mara, which in fact is a continuation of the Tanzanian Serengeti National Park, has the greatest population of wild animals in the whole of Africa. There is a particularly dramatic “spectacle” from July to October, the annual migration of huge herds of Gnus and zebras. Predators such as Hyenas, Jackals, Leopards and Lions of course, closely follow these herds. Gigantic herds of over 200 buffaloes can also be observed. Plenty of food is available for elephants, giraffes, and the many species of antelopes.

OPTIONAL (hot air balloon taking off in the beautiful early morning, you drift above the browsing game and have tremendous opportunities for unusual photographs. What could be more uplifting than an early morning safari in a hot air balloon flying over the vast plains of Africa? Witness an African sunrise as a plethora of wildlife roam the land beneath you. At the end of the flight you land on the plains, in the midst of this enchanting savannah a champagne breakfast is laid out with the mouth watering aroma of sausages, eggs, and bacon, sizzling over a charcoal fire. Drive in a leisurely fashion with game viewing on your way back to your camp).
